Join me on my Nature and Landscape Photography Outings

Welcome to my new You Tube channel. As a landscape and nature photographer for 30 years, I'm so excited to be finally making films about the hobby that I love so much. My main aim in the videos is to share with you my process of making images, but above all, what I want to convey is that wonderful feeling of being outdoors, surrounded by the wildness within the landscape. In my professional life I work as a senior ecologist and am passionate about preserving our native flora and fauna and therefore, in these videos I will also, when possible, point out some of interesting things that can be found in the countryside.

Landscape Photography - Rivington

Just every once in a while with lots of patience and with many excursions, a great image will eventually present itself. In this video, that very occasion comes to light at Rivington in Lancashire and I find myself faced with one of the nicest woodland views that I have stumbled upon in many years. I capture the shot with a view to coming back but in conclusion, the final edited image is in itself, really beautiful! Along with this surprise, I photograph a due laden orb web, a sunrise over a wonderful grassland and dip into the world of abstract photography.

Landscape Photography - Pavlova Strana, Lake Skadar National Park

The mountains, lakes and coastal scenery in Montenegro combine to make one of the most beautiful places that I have ever visited. During this recent trip to visit a family property, I head to the world famous Pavlova Strana close to Rijeka Crnojevića at Lake Skadar National Park.

Landscape Photography - Coniston Jetty at Dawn

A very short vlog documenting a recent overnight stay camping at Coniston in the Lake District National Park. In this vlog I shoot a little known jetty at dawn, and whilst the weather looked set to beat me on this occasion, I manage to come away with a fairly decent image!

Landscape Photography - Lathkill Dale National Nature Reserve

Lathkill Dale National Nature Reserve in the Peak District National Park is the focus of this latest video. I just love this place! It's a great walk at anytime of year, culminating in a stunning little waterfall; ideal for a Sunday morning stroll. The area is brimming with ecological and geological interest and for those of you with a keen eye for botanical life, it's like Christmas in the summer! For me however on this excursion, I go specifically to shoot the waterfall, which is one of my all time favourites and although I fail on my first attempt, I do get the shot in the end!

Landscape  Photography - Scaleber Force

Early summer is one of the best times to shoot waterfalls and not only that, believe it or not, a dull or overcast day puts the cherry on the cake. It's this time of year when all the leafy foliage is at its freshest and this really translates through to the final image. In this video I head to Scaleber Force in the Yorkshire Dales National park, not far from Settle to shoot one of the loveliest waterfalls that I know. There was just enough water to make what I consider to be one of my finest images in recent months.

Landscape  Photography - Two for the price of one!

There's nothing quite like grabbing an opportunity when you get one! I literally had just a couple of hours on this occasion to go out and shoot and yet, I managed to bag myself two really lovely shots! I hope this video helps to prove that however limited your time is, there's always room to squeeze a session in!

Nature Photography - Wetland Bird Shoot - My Local Patch

With only a short amount of time to spend on a Suturday morning, what better way is there to put that time to good use than to chill out with the camera at a local nature reserve in the morning sunshine. In this video I head to Longton Brickcroft in Lancashire to photograph a few familiar wetland bird species.

Nature and Landscape Photography - Dawn shoot at Blea Tarn...or at least that was the plan!!

Make no mistake about it, landscape and nature photography can be a frustrating business and this video is proof of just that! In this episode I head to Blea Tarn in the Lake District for a dawn shoot where I cover the technique of panoramic photography. However, due to reasons that will be revealed, I then go shooting spring flora in broad-leaf woodland only to save the day with a fabulous image taken at Latterbarrow Nature Reserve. Nature and Landscape Photography - Always Expect The Unexpected

The woodland landscape is a truly wonderful place to immerse yourself and it's now, during spring when the all woodland plants fight for dominance before the canopy closes. In this video I head for the X Factor of all woodlands; ancient woodland! But it's not without its perils!

Landscape Photography and Nature Photography - Sharpening images for Web Use

After 25+ years behind the camera, I have tried countless methods of sharpening my images in preparation for the web and yet every time, I come back to the same tried and tested method. In this short video tutorial, I share with you one of my longest little secrets. I hope it's as much as a revelation to you, as it was for me!

Nature Photography - Shooting Stock in Spring

In this video, my plans to shoot landscapes were aborted at the last minute due to a poor weather, so instead, I head to a local park for an early morning stroll through ancient woodland looking for subjects for my stock collection. Please visit my channel and click 'subcribe' to be the first to see each new video as soon as it is released.

Landscape Photography - If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try...and try again!

In this video, I travel to Suffolk to meet up with good friend and fellow photographer Graham Shaw to photograph Herringfleet Mill, which is located on the Norfolk border. Graham introduced me to this location over a year ago and I have been trying to do it justice ever since, but the light has just never been right. However, finally on the last day of this flying weekend visit visit, I get what I get what I have been hoping for!

Landscape and Nature Photography - Ullswater, Lake District National Park

In this video I head for Ullswater in the Lake District National Park to photograph the daffodils, made famous by the great William Wordsworth. However, en-route, I get distracted by an early morning lakeside scene, ditch my initial plans and head down to the shore to shoot a glorious sunrise. The daffodils wait a little while...but I eventually meet their acquaintance.
