Sample Workshop Itinerary (all locations are subject to change depending on weather conditions)

Friday Saturday Sunday
  • Arrive at the Honister House Bed and Breakfast around 6pm where you will meet myself and our hosts Carol and Ged who will show you to your room.
  • Pre-dawn rise and a short walk to Derwent Water in the dark to work the shorline, photographing the jetties, boats and islands with the stunning backdrop of catbells.
  • We start the day with another early rise and head to Castle Rigg Stone Circle with the sun rising in front of the mighty stones.
  • Head over to Keswick town centre to the Bank Tavern for a lovely evening meal and if you fancy, a pint of real ale. They are CAMRA recommended.
  • Back for breakfast and re-group, get your packed lunches before heading south to Blea Tarn where we will spend the morning shooting one of the best tarns Cumbria has to offer.
  • Back for breakfast and re-group, get your packed lunches before heading to Hodge Close quarry.  It sounds pretty dull as locations go but there are compositions around every corner and whilst most photography groups focus on the quarry itself, the site has another little secret up its sleeve.
  • Early night.
  • After lunch we head to the River Rothay, which is brimming with photo opportunities. If it is calm, the Langdale Pikes can be seen perfectly reflected in the crystal clear water.
  • After lunch we have the choice of staying at Hodge Close Quarry or heading to a choice of locations including Tarn Hows, Ullswater or Rydal Water where we will end the day before heading back to Keswick to collect our belongings.

  • We finish off our day along the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake shooting the mighty Skiddaw at suset and also during the blue hour.
  • As a special thank you Ged, at the Honister House Bed and Breakfast will grant all workshop attendees the oportunity to display, for sale, one of their images in his photographic gallery Brave the Skies, located below the bed and breakfast.

  • Head back to Honister House for a cuppa and a review your images before dinner.

  • The eveining is yours to try one of Keswicks many other eating places...or you can join me back in the Bank Tavern.

January is a great month for landscape photography. The sun remains low in the sky the whole day, which means that we can shoot in the best quality light without worrying about harshly lit scenes. At this time of year, there may be frost, fog and snow scenes to shoot so book now to avoid disappointment!

Please be aware that we do not have any of the locations exclusively to ourselves and may be joined by other photographers, groups and the general public, of which we are part of.
