Canon EOS 1DX
I have finally taken the plunge and upgraded my ever faithful 1DS MK2 for the latest pro release from Canon; the 1DX. The 1DS MK2 was with me for the best part of 10 years and whilst it was mechanically sound and very robust, I always felt that nagging feeling in the back of my mind every time I thought of those fellow photographers with the 1D series cameras with their faster frame rate and lighting quick and precise autofocus, especially when shooting nature. For years I have moaned about this problem, often saying that Canon should address this and actually put all their eggs in one basket for once! It simply wasn't fair that Canon should assume that those who participated in both landscape and nature should have to buy two bodies. And if they did, what about all that weight? Finally it seems my prayers have been answered and just last month I took the plunge and spent some cash. So what do I think? all that I can say so far is OH MY GOD!!! This camera is everything it needs to be. It's almost as if it knows what is expected of it. My moaning days could be over?... but then I doubt it! I haven't put the camera to the landscape test yet but as for nature, I'm shooting with ISO's in the region of 2000 and the images are superb. Pictures that were never possible before are suddenly within my reach. Shooting plants on breezy days, at f16 is for the first time ever, a reality!
Thank you Canon!

Gear Test
CamRanger
I received the new CamRanger today for testing. The CamRanger allows full control of your camera wirelessly though an I Phone or I Pad with full camera control and a live view beamed straight to your device. This sound like a great piece of kit for shooting wildlife remotely. You can read the the full test here.

Bushnell Trophy Cam HD Max
I've recently been asked to review the 2012 Trophy Cam from Bushnell.
Initial testing has revealed a bullet proof piece of kit that can withstand all that the British weather can throw at it. There are some irritating flaws though, which the manufacturer needs to address. The full test will feature in Photography Monthly online magazine and can be read here.

Illustrated Articles
I've been writing and illustrating the Wild Britain feature for Photography Monthly for almost twelve months now and I have enjoyed every minute, as I hope you have. It's been a great challenge finding the many images each month that are of the quality that such a popular photography magazine demands. What may be of interest to those of you who are planning to write photography articles yourself; is hang on to your rubbish! It surprising how many you need to illustrate your point.
