Lancashire's coastal gems

Level of experience: Beginner

Duration: Approximately eight hours (depending on season) covering Blackpool, Fleetwood and Cleveleys

Fitness Level: Easy

Ideal equipment: Tripod, digital SLR with lenses ranging from wide angle to 200mm

The main focus will be on setting up the camera so you take full control of creativity by way of careful and considered selection of aperture, shutter speeds and focal length. You will also learn about Live view, how to understand histograms and find good composition.

To get the most from the day, the tuition will start pre-dawn at Preston station to give us time to travel to our first stop and a dawn shoot. This will be at the very evocative Mary's shell in Cleveleys where you will spend a few hours shooting at dawn before moving on to the scuppered wrecks at Fleetwood before lunch. During the afternoon we will travel to Blackpool to photograph the wonderful structures of the north and central piers whereby from here; we can either stay for the dusk shoot, or move further south to St Annes pier...but this is optional.

Most landscape photographers love their filters, and their use can often mean the difference between a good photo and a great one. My personal choice of filter manufacturer is Lee filters and if you don't have your own on the day, I will demonstrate using them with your equipment. The main filters used today are; neutral density graduated filters to balance exposure, polarisers to reduce glare and saturate colours, Little and Big stoppers to slow shutter speeds and create magical blur. I have a full range of these.

To fit in with work commitments, the workshops will run at the weekends. We will meet at a designated start point in the south Lancashire and travel in one car together to the remaining locations.
